Stratford Upon Avon, a market town with more than 800 years of history, containing not only many buildings that survive today and would have been familiar to Shakespeare, but also a thriving community offering a wide variety of leisure and shopping experiences. William Shakespeare was born and buried here. William Shakespeare was born at the half timbered Tudor family home in Henley Street in 1564. Holy Trinity Church is where he was baptised and is buried, and it is located on the banks of the River Avon, a couple of minutes walk from the theatres. Bancroft Basin, lies in the heart of Stratford and is surrounded by beautiful gardens and the River. The basin is busy with colourful boats and is a great place to start your visit.
